Is it possible that the structure of tropical rainforests has recovered 40 years after clear-cutting?

Abstract The tropical rainforest of Bajo Calima, Buenaventura, Colombia, was known for its large biodiversity and enormous regeneration potential. During the 1970–90s, industrial use through clear-cutting gave rise to secondary forest (SF), which is now a collective property communities that inhabit it. productivity would recover after 30 years according linear recovery trend, as predicted by Mazuera (1985). purpose conducting this research in Colombia quantify SF at different ages clear-cutting. Plots 0.1 ha were selected 23, 27, 31 35 following initial primary (PF). It managed selective logging. Samples equal size PF without logging, called mature MSF (> 40 years), used controls. variables expressed basal area, volume (Vol) aerial biomass (AB), on average four studied 45%, 29% 22% compared PF, 94%, 50% 49% with respect MSF. Without opportunity reach maturity trend model not achieved showed productive characteristics far below those forest.
